Add-on’s, renovations, and new construction homes can seem intimidating to take on. How do you even get started? How do you find and manage contractors? What surprises should you anticipate coming up? How long do these things take?
In this podcast, you will learn all that and so much more!

Renovation Management for Interior Designers – Expanding your business with a lucrative service
What you will learn in this episode:
How designers can define what they do for a living
How designers truly know their clients
How understanding your clients allows you to improve the quality of their life
I’ve frequently been asked by designers how they can clearly define what they do for a living. As a designer for almost 30 years in the business, I get that. I do and have always struggled with what I do for a living.
When I’m out in the normal world, most people assume I play with fabric and paint swatches all day and that it must be really fun. And I take no offense to that, sometimes our work is really fun, and most people are just making small talk they aren’t getting into the details of your work.
However, clients are interested in the details of what you really do. Contractors are interested. They do want to know where you stand and what you will bring to a project.
So here’s the thing – and what I want ALL designers to incorporate into their verbiage when they’re talking about what they do. “Yes, I decorate, I decorate all day long. I enjoy the decorating part of my business, and yes, I manage renovation construction. Both of those pieces allow me to improve the quality of my client’s lives.
I’m going to say that one more time:
What I do for a living improves the quality of my client’s lives in the house that they’re living.
Think about that!! You know that it’s true!
So today, I want to go into some examples so that you can truly appreciate the impact designers can bring to their clients.
And then, I also discuss how unique that is for our industry. We go into the most private spaces a person has and begin to truly understand them and their lifestyle, and that is how we improve the quality of their lives.
Today I am sharing ways I’ve helped impact the quality of my client’s lives in very different ways.
Designers and homeowners, you will BOTH hear elements that you can connect with.
Designers, this is how you are going to not just sell your services but find a way to explain your value on any project that a client is lucky enough to have you on.
I also want to tell you these stories so that you can be thinking through your own projects, “How can I elevate the quality of my client’s life?” No one knows your client better than you. And that is why our industry is so critically needed.
