Add-on’s, renovations, and new construction homes can seem intimidating to take on. How do you even get started? How do you find and manage contractors? What surprises should you anticipate coming up? How long do these things take?
In this podcast, you will learn all that and so much more!
What you will learn from this episode:
Why you need to prepare your mindset before starting your project
Your attitude, whether positive or negative, really does matter
How to have a healthy perspective on your project
Today I am going to give you simple mindset switches that will turn your project into a success!
There are several ways that you can do this, but one way to start is through research. Whatever project you’re taking on, start looking into the steps of the project. You want to learn how each project is done, what you should expect, and the different steps that are taken to be completed.
And I recommend this because there are going to be stages in each project that you may find boring or disappointing. You might be thinking that this won’t be you, you will be fine, but I see people get tripped up over this more often than not.
Please don’t consider HGTV your research. I know a lot of people watch it. My kids like to watch, and I will even watch it sometimes, but it usually ends up with me yelling at the TV 🙂 And I say this because HGTV portrays more of a Hollywood type of project. (I’ll be doing a podcast on this topic soon!) So I like to tell people that they need to do research outside of this, so they can really prepare for what they are wanting to take on.
The more work you can do preparing for the parts of your project you don’t enjoy, and you knowing that it’s coming, is going to ensure that you don’t end up frustrated, and disappointed. For every individual and every individual project, these parts may differ. So it’s important to do your research and find out what you know you will enjoy, the parts that are exciting and fun, and what parts you just want to be over.
I see so many times that someone is frustrated with how the project is going and will have a negative attitude, or be way too positive, (it does happen!) and it affects everyone around them. Having a healthy perspective on how your project is actually going to go and having the appropriate attitude towards it and everyone around you, will be so beneficial to your project success.
So these are a few of the reasons why preparing your mindset is so important. I want you to be able to be in the right mindset before starting your project and be able to get through it with as much success and ease as possible!
