Add-on’s, renovations, and new construction homes can seem intimidating to take on. How do you even get started? How do you find and manage contractors? What surprises should you anticipate coming up? How long do these things take?
In this podcast, you will learn all that and so much more!

Listen to The Designed For the Creative Mind podcast Episode 32
Episode 42: Why Construction Completion Clauses Shouldn’t Be Added to Your Contract
Episode 43: Buying a House ‘As Is’ – What Does That Mean and How Do You Protect Yourself
What you will learn from this episode:
How the pandemic is affecting construction projects
How this affects you as a homeowner managing your project
Knowledge is power! Gain control over the specific issues of your own project
Don’t get me wrong, projects have always dragged on, even in the past, most of which I believe are controllable if you learn how to manage your project successfully – which is the whole purpose of this podcast and why I built the course, Only Girl On The Jobsite, both for the homeowner as well as the designer.
While projects do suffer delays we are in unprecedented times with a pandemic on our hands…..delays are unfortunately the norm these days.
What I see causing these extremely long, drawn-out delays on projects is supply chains are either drying up or getting so clogged that we just can’t get products in our hands.
This of course is going to impact all aspects of life, but it is dramatically impacting construction projects.
That’s where this whole mess is coming to a head. We simply cannot move product from point A to point B.
Depending on what you read, you’ll hear different reasons for this backup. Quite frankly, I think all the stories we are hearing are right, and that’s the problem, there isn’t one issue, there are multiple issues. It is just an awful cycle right now.
So what does that mean? What does that mean when your project supplies pivot from 4 weeks to 18 weeks, to possibly an unknown period?
My heart goes out to contractors as well as homeowners living in these projects.
Almost no one is in control right now, and that goes against everything I always say, “Be in control. Stay in control. Manage your project.” And the problem is, things are becoming unmanageable.
I do not see this as permanent, but I do see this for now and for a little while longer.
The other issue that the construction world is dealing with is the lack of labor. This is becoming a real problem. So it’s not just getting the product, it’s actually installing the product as well.
I know no one will be listening to this episode, thinking, “This is all great news!” but I do want to empower you to take some control where you can because nobody does well feeling completely out of control. Trust me, the contractors aren’t enjoying feeling out of control either.
Everybody is feeling this. So my goal with this episode, as well as all the others is to give you some control, to tamp down those emotions so that everybody can continue to manage their project with a cool head and a plan.
The supply issues are not ending anytime soon, and I am being told by some that they will get worse before they get better. You have no idea how much that pains me to say that out loud.
But knowledge is power and with that, you can gain control over the specific issues of your own project.
