Add-on’s, renovations, and new construction homes can seem intimidating to take on. How do you even get started? How do you find and manage contractors? What surprises should you anticipate coming up? How long do these things take?

In this podcast, you will learn all that and so much more!

Home Trends To Consider: Lessons From a Pandemic

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Utilizing your space efficiently

  • Creating space in your home for self-care

  • Creating a home that functions well for your family

A lot has changed over the past year, and we have stretched our homes to the limit, gotten in each others way, and learned that we are now using our homes like never before.

I want to talk to you about utilizing your space efficiently. Most of us are working from home now, and may be continuing to do so even as the world returns to “normal”. I want to talk to you first about working from home. Working from home can involve noise, distraction, organization, and planning – things some of us might not be so accustomed to! If you are needing to create a home office, like so many others, I am going to be giving you some tips and ideas to consider before you start this project so that you can utilize the space you have, or rearrange things that will make your time at home as enjoyable as possible! You may be thinking that you don’t need much, just a flat surface to place your laptop, but something that is super important – always be sure to leave yourself space for growth. If you’re just on a laptop now, you could possibly need a printer in the future or large monitors, or go the other way and possibly need a space that is easy to clean up and get out of the way if you’re only using it a few days a week.

Your children have also been working from home, and it may be that way for a while longer. Giving them a space to have peace and quiet while they study is so important. Your children may not want to be in their rooms, maybe they prefer the kitchen table, or dining room. But even if they just use their desk as a place to sit and write, or read, even after they go back to brick and mortar schools, they may continue to enjoy having that space in their room.

Another room that has been stretched to it’s limit this year is our kitchens. I believe people have been cooking more than ever, and you may be considering re-doing your kitchen so that it can function more efficiently for your family. Most kitchens aren’t built for people who “really” cook. I see our kitchens being re-evaluated in the future to better accommodate being used more frequently.

I think we have all learned how important self-care is during this pandemic. We do need a space to escape to and feel restored. And you can easily do that in your own bathroom! There are so many products on the market (and not all are expensive) that create a spa-like experience in your bathroom. I do believe in the future people will be exploring more of these options that will allow your bathroom to be a true sanctuary and go-to space to support their mental health.

I truly feel these are the lessons we will take away from 2020 and hope they help guide you through planning your next projects.

I’d love to hear what you’re going to tackle first, and which personal touches you’re going to add in to support the work you need to do in your home going forward.
