Add-on’s, renovations, and new construction homes can seem intimidating to take on. How do you even get started? How do you find and manage contractors? What surprises should you anticipate coming up? How long do these things take?

In this podcast, you will learn all that and so much more!

Supply Chain Issues Continue – Ways to Work Around the Delays

What you will learn from this episode:

  • Options to explore for working around current supply chain delays

  • What to do if you’re not 100% sure about purchasing a piece of furniture

  • Suggestions on how to move forward with your project during these unusual times

I’m going to take a brief step away from the construction side of my world to focus on a very ‘of the moment’ topic, which is the continued supply chain issues that we are seeing more on the decorating side of the business.

In this episode, I’m offering some alternatives I’m using and suggesting to my clients for working around the delays and sourcing these hard-to-get items.

So, it is early March 2022, and I, for one, thought the new year would bring the start of things getting better. Although some things on the construction side are getting slightly better, it seems like things on the decorating side are actually getting worse.

With the current supply chain issues still in full effect, if you’re working on a construction project, you’ll most likely need furniture, fabrics, rugs, and other items to finish the project. Most companies are dealing with not only supply chain issues, but also labor issues.

I have now heard of lead times of up to 40 weeks!

FORTY WEEKS!!!

While I am a big proponent of using trade resources, one option is to purchase from a retail store so you can get it within a reasonable timeframe. Of course, you are limited to what is in stock, and you probably won’t be able to customize the pieces, but it could shorten the time it takes to receive them.

A second option to consider is antiques. Refinishing or repurposing an older piece is a good alternative for getting something into a home in less time than placing an order and is also a great way to go green.

My third suggestion is to look at items you already own. Reupholstering an existing piece could be the best option and another way to go green. The quality of an older piece is usually much better than what we can get today. You may think this is the least expensive option, but after adding in the labor and fabric costs, the price is usually about the same as purchasing new. By using this option, the piece could be completed in a matter of weeks.

So, my advice to you is to be as resourceful as you can with what you have at your disposal.

I hope these suggestions will help you to think outside the box for finding resources that will still fit the work you are doing. You may be tempted to take the shortcut and purchase something you’re not crazy about just because you’re tired of waiting for something else to come in, but please don’t do that.
